Lemme Get The Aux

The painting "Lemme Get the AUX" conveys a universal moment of social tension and self-consciousness about personal music taste during a shared experience. The 100 x 75cm painting transports the viewer to the backseat of a car traveling from the north of England, this is indicated by an illuminated road sign viewed through the windscreen, that reads "M1 The South, London" in the background of the painting. The viewer gets to experience the embarrassment of asking to control the musical experience of a road trip with individuals who don't like their music taste. The mood is set by both the driver and passenger who are turned away from the road, facing the viewer with looks of judgment. The scene is set at night, so to contrast the dark tone I used primary colours and altered the temperature of the colour black for the figures' clothes. The colour palette creates a visual and emotional dichotomy. The use of composition, colour, and expression to capture the moment, was important in imitating the social awkwardness and personal vulnerability of the universal theme.
